Math:
This week we got all the way to the biggest numbers we'll be working with. They are multiplying numbers in the thousands by one digit numbers, and also multiplying 2 digit numbers by 2 digit numbers. Hard stuff! Next week we're going to be tackling word problems with the goal of finishing up multiplication for good by Thanksgiving. Science: It's time for a new unit! We've moved from learning about energy to learning about the Earth. This week we talked about fossils and what we can learn about them. Talk to your kids about what a fossil is and how they can teach us about what the past was like, they should be able to tell you! Announcements:
Welcome to the first Friday newsletter! It's taken so long for this to get going because I'm just now finally finding a routine and figuring out how to fit in everything I need to between the new school rules, virtual classroom, and everything else. I'll be using this newsletter to communicate announcements for the class, as well as a little overview of what we've been doing this week. The only announcement for next week is that we'll be doing a Veteran's day celebration on Wednesday. Usually the school does a whole big get together in the gym, but that's out this year. Instead there will be activities and displays put up around the school for Wednesday. Math: In math we have been learning multiplication. So far we've been practicing the area model method, but on Thursday the kids also learned the place value method and are able to try out the algorithm if they want. They have been keeping up with the work and really putting in a lot of effort, I've been very proud of all of them. Science: This week we wrapped up our Energy unit with a review and a test on everything we've learned so far. Thanks for all the practice you did at home to get the students ready. Those who were putting in the effort did some great work! |
