Announcements:
This week was great! We had a full five days to finish strong before our end of the year tests start. We'll be taking the NWEA tests next week. The kids are ready and should not stress. Reading: This week the class studied text structures. We've been reading about science and looking at the different ways authors can organize text to deliver information efficiently. Writing: We started writing poems this week! Math: Our last unit is upon us! This one is also about fractions, and so far the kids have been doing a great job. Our focus was equivalent fractions and comparing fractions with different denominators. Science: It was a messy week in science. In order to study erosion and deposition, the class gathered dirt, made stream tables, and then poured water through them to demonstrate what happens when sediment Social Studies: What sort of government do we have, and what do they do? We have been looking into this question and learning a lot along the way. Announcements:
The end of the year is starting to feel real around here, but we are moving on as fast as ever and working very hard to have a successful end to 4th grade! Reading: We have been studying poetry this week, looking at things like stanzas, rhyme scheme, meter, mood and theme. The kids have had a great time and did a pretty good job. We even found out that we have some poets in our classroom! Writing: Writing took a back seat again this week so we could present our biographies. Math: The class spent this week locking down the concept of math with mixed numbers, and they did a really good job. I was very impressed at how well they grasped this difficult set of concepts! Science: We started a new unit in science, one where we will study soil, rocks, and land forms. It was all about soil this week Social Studies: The class will be moving on to studying government soon, so we looked at what the government's role in the economy is. What kinds of services do they provide, and what are taxes used for? |
