Please check to see if your students has enough pencils. Some days I have half the class asking for something to write with or writing with something like a dry erase marker! Reading: Reading informational books involves learning lots of new words. The class went over strategies on how to determine the meanings of these words and how they add to the overall message of the text. Writing: We are in the final stages of rough drafting our superhero stories and will be moving on to revising and peer editing next week. Math: Fractions are here! Luckily, the class was already pretty familiar with them and this week went smoothly as we learned to add and subtract them. Social Studies: The government has to share powers between the federal and state sections, and we spent this week learning what those were and what powers belonged to each one. Announcements:

Reading: Authors tend to write books with great detail, and they use that detail to help tell the story and enrich the setting and characters. This week we've been reading books and trying to study how these authors are using detail to make their worlds more interesting. Writing: The class has really taken off with writing their superhero stories. They have had some great ideas, and we're all planned out now. We'll be rough drafting and revising next week. Math: Word problems are hard, but we spent this week going over strategies for solving them. We're on to a new unit next week, fractions!
